Checkmate, Huck Finn

As this article notes, Don DeLillo once said that all plots end in death. So do chess matches. So, naturally we (rather, the authors) ask: what famous plots would beat other famous plots in a chess match?

The algorithm was a little beyond our understanding – or, more precisely, our desire to understand. But we were somewhat mesmerized, and disheartened, while watching “Huckleberry Finn” lose to “Little Women.”

Jonathan Ames reads letters from Gitmo

The PEN American Center hosted a night with writers – Ishmael Beah, Eve Ensler, Don DeLillo – reading correspondence from Gitmo detainees. Here’s Jonathan Ames. It’s pretty chilling to hear, and Ames’ leisurely cadence renders the letter’s most frequently used word – “Censored” – strangely normal.
